Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Party
Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the team access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Fans can look forward to finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
